2024 Canberra and Region Wine Show: 90 Silver

Only a barrel made and aged for eight months in a seasoned French barrique. This is compelling. Reserved flavours, which is unusual for viognier, but it has appealing texture, which is usual for the variety. A hint of daikon radish, melon and nashi pear, a sprinkling of ginger powder in the mix, as the fine acidity leads the palate alongside the light tug of phenolics on the finish.

The grapes, astutely grown by Thomas Lefebvre in the Lake George escarpments and meticulously crafted by the Sapling Yard team, have resulted in a cool-climate Viognier of length and structure.
The initial enticing aromas and flavours express a melange of floral jasmine, pear, citrussy and rockmelon.
The subtle yet persistent and supportive old French oak barrique influence and natural acids drive the long palate to a crisp, fresh, clean and savoury finish.
This is a medal-worthy, well framed, palate pleasing young Viognier well suited to the warm seasons.
— Winelines - Gilbert Labour: 94 Silver
Light yellow hue with a shy, reserved aroma that hints at the variety rather than shouting its name, while the palate is delicate, reserved, light-bodied and shy for this varietal. Lively but integrated acidity, cleansing freshness at the finish but not a lot of character at this stage. It may build with more time. Very good wine at any rate.
